Trinity Intra-College Olympiads 2024
Olympiads in +2 and A Levels typically refer to academic competitions that aim to identify and nurture students' talents in various subjects, including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, Economics & Business. The competitions are designed to challenge students beyond the regular curriculum and promote critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a deeper understanding of these subjects.
Participating any of the five Intra-College Olympiads, we are conducting can be a most rewarding experience for student learners who have a passion for academics and seriously want to expand their knowledge & skills. They serve as platforms for identifying and nurturing the talent of the participating Trinitians in key subjects, apart from furthering their placements in College and Universities, here or abroad, post +2 or A Levels.
Successful candidates from our Intra-College Olympiads may later advance to take part in provincial, national, and even international competitions which are held from time to time. These Olympiads do play a crucial role in fostering academic excellence, encouraging intellectual curiosity, and promoting scholastic collaboration in the subject areas covered.
There will be Olympiads in the five following subjects:
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Economics & Business
- Chemistry
- Biology
Objective: To foster intellectual growth and skill development and to promote critical thinking, academic engagement, and professional development among the Olympiad participants
Syllabus & Study Materials
Competition Rounds:
- First Round: 100 Marks Subjective Questions
- Second Round: Presentation and Sharing of Research Idea with elaboration
Key Features:
- Recognition & Awards: Gift hampers for top performers; Intellectual Award for the overall best performer
- Experience Sharing: Participants from previous competitions to share their experiences and insightsShowcasing Olympiads' Importance: Emphasizing the relevance and significance of Olympiads in shaping students' lives
- Essay Competition: Selection of the top 5 essays for publication in the 2025 magazine
- Networking & Business Model Development: Teaching the importance of networking and business model preparation for career advancement and talent monetization
- Research Paper Opportunity: Selection of one research topic in each subject: Economics, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Business Studies
Twelve students (two students from each discipline – subject) to work on a research paper under mentorship; publication in the Trinity College Magazine.
Competition Schedule: (One day gap to be maintained in each Test)
The First Round
- Introduction to Olympiad Structure and Rules
- Speech on the Significance of International Competitions
- The First Round – Subjective Test Conduction (3 hours written test)
The Final Round
- Presentation and Sharing of Research Idea with elaboration (15 Minutes)
General Rules:
- The deadline for registration is November 21, 2024, for all interested students.
- Participants must register individually for the competition.
- A participant can engage in a maximum of two disciplines (subjects).
- During any competition round, participants are prohibited from using external aids.
- The top 20 scorers from each discipline (subject) in the Qualifying Test proceed to the subsequent round.
- There will be 50 MCQs in the Qualifying Round.
- 60 minutes will be given for the 50 MCQs in the Qualifying Round.
- The Qualifying Tests will be conducted at the College Premises.
- The top 3 scorers from each subject will be selected for Awards as the First, Second & Third winners.
- The First, Second & Third position achievers will be chosen based on their performance in the First Round - Subjective Test & the Final Round - Presentation and Sharing of Research Idea with elaboration. 60% weightage will be given for the First Round - Subjective Test & 40% weightage will be given for the Presentation and Sharing of Research Ideas.
Final Round (Research Idea & Presentation):
- Participants will be given 20 minutes to present their research idea on the given topics.
- Participants are required to be present at the event venue by the reporting time with their presentation slides/materials.
- Presentation and Sharing of Research Idea with elaboration will be judged by a team of Jury.
- Participants must present an elaboration of their research idea within the allocated time.
- 18 students, 3 in each Subject – 1st, 2nd & 3rd, will be chosen based on the First Round - Subjective Test score & the Final Round - Presentation and Sharing of Research Ideas for the award.
- Any cheating, including collusion or unauthorized aid, will lead to immediate disqualification.
Awards and Certification:
- First Position in Each Subject will be rewarded Rs. 5000 with medal and certificate.
- Second Position in Each Subject will be rewarded Rs. 3000 with medal and certificate.
- Third Position in Each Subject will be rewarded Rs. 2000 with medal and certificate.
- All the participants will be given a Certificate of Participation.
